Happy Birthday Lana Turner

Lana Turner was an Idaho born American pin up model and dramatic actress who enjoyed a fifty year career in Hollywood.

Born Julia Jean Turner on February 8, 1921, Miss Turner was discovered in 1936 at the Top Hat Malt Shop in Hollywood, California and was signed to Warner Brothers by the age of 16.

Known early on as a "Sweater Girl", Turner soon established herself as a leading lady during the 1940s and 1950s.

Turner received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in her role as Constance MacKenzie in the 1957 film "Peyton Place."

Scandal and controversy surrounded Turner in 1958 when her daughter Cheryl Crane stabbed Turner's lover Johnny Stompanato to death in their Beverly Hills home during a domestic struggle.
